Online Radio Stations are a great way to share music with friends and family, I personally prefer a real DJ to be broadcasting and playing song requests for everyone. I notice doing simple search engine searches that there are hundreds of thousands of internet radio stations; however, they all seem to be broadcasting auto-DJ (i.e nobody is there broadcasting), they simply take a big list of music and play them in "shuffle" or "autoplay" or "random" , I find this a rather sad fact, after all radio is there to be tuned in and enjoyed.
You should be able to shout out messages to your friends and family via the DJ on-air, you should be able to ask the DJ for songs requests when your tuned in and lets not forget that any source of radio is a good source of advertising you can have your messages shouted out on air to all listeners, and the good thing about online radio stations is 9 times out of 10 the listeners are regulars who use the website or tune in when they are browsing the internet, so DJ's get to know the listeners and it becomes a bit more personal than terrestrial radio stations.
Tuning into radio stations online is just as simple as tuning into any AM/FM/MW station, and further more finding an online radio station to tune into is even easier with a good search engine.
You don't need much software to tune into internet radio stations 9 times out of 10 you already have the software pre-installed on your PC, sometimes you might have to download a free player from the internet or sometimes the online radio station have there own built in web player for you to listen so you don't need to install anything.
Most online radio stations broadcast software allow several different ways to tune in for example the most popular methods are Winamp, Windows Media Player and built in web/flash players, all of which are free.
So if your getting tired of terrestrial FM stations why not try tuning into an online radio station.
